Basic information
The major of Agricultural Resources and Environment of Guizhou University originated from the Department of Agricultural Chemistry of National Guizhou College of Agriculture and Industry in 1941. It became a characteristic major of Guizhou Province in 2013 and a first-class undergraduate major at the provincial level of the Ministry of Education in 2019. At present, it has a master’s degree authorization degree program of agricultural resources and environment (including two directions of pedology and plant nutrition) and a master’s degree authorization degree program of agricultural specialty (the direction of resource utilization and plant protection). This discipline closely follows Guizhou Province's strategy of large-scale ecology, large-scale poverty alleviation, and large-scale healthy development. It closely revolves around the characteristics of Guizhou's mountainous areas and combines major scientific and technological needs such as the protection of national arable land resources, the safe production of agricultural products, the construction of ecological civilization, and rural revitalization to form three research fields: pedology, plant nutrition and agricultural environment protection. At present, the close integration of discipline development and regional agricultural development has become an important support for the green and healthy development of agriculture in Guizhou. It has made important work in the aspects of soil resources and sustainable utilization, soil environment and pollution remediation, plant nutrition and water and fertilizer regulation, new fertilizer and resource development, agricultural ecosystem and circulation regulation, agricultural environment quality and detection and evaluation, etc. and has formed characteristics and advantages. It is an important training base for agricultural scientific and technological talents in Guizhou Province and even Southwest China.
Research direction
1. Pedology
(1) Soil resources and sustainable utilization: It studies the occurrence and evolution, quality and distribution of soil in Guizhou, the physical, chemical and biological characteristics of soil, the fertility characteristics of soil, and the development, utilization, improvement and protection of soil;
(2) Soil environment and pollution remediation: It studies the transport of heavy metals in the soil-plant system, as well as the transport characteristics and environmental risks in the soil-water system in the context of high karst geochemistry. It develops in-situ control technology of heavy metals in soil, combined remediation technology for heavy metals by plant microorganisms and remediation technology for contaminated sites;
(3) Soil ecosystem material cycle and regulation: It studies the relationship between C, N, P cycle and soil functional microbial diversity, as well as the movement laws of soil water, nutrients, pollutants and their interactions with the environment.
2. Plant Nutrition
(1) Plant nutrition and water and fertilizer regulation: It researches plant nutrition physiology and water-fertilizer balance mechanism, crop root response to exogenous heavy metals and resistance mechanism, develop soil-testing formula fertilization technology, balanced fertilization technology, water-fertilizer integrated micro-sprinkler irrigation fertilization technology, and integrated technology for planting and applying organic fertilizers with high carbon-nitrogen ratio.;
(2) Development of new fertilizer resources: It develops crop nutrition diagnosis technology and reasonable utilization technology of fertilizer resources, resource utilization of solid waste materials, and develops multivariate biological fertilizers, slow-release fertilizers, foliar fertilizers, crop-specific fertilizers, organic fertilizers, and organic-inorganic compound fertilizers.
3. Resource utilization and plant protection
It takes soil, fertilizer, water, gas and other agricultural resources as the main research objects, earth science, biological science and other basic theories as the main basic theoretical guidance, field experiment, field investigation and modern analysis technology as the basic approaches and methods, to carry out research content with the circulation of atmospheric-plant-soil-water matter and ecological functions as the core. It takes the agro-ecological environment of famous and excellent agricultural products (tea, tobacco, potatoes, corn, rice, sorghum, vegetables, fruits, Chinese medicinal materials, etc.) as its research object, conducts investigations and tests of soil and hydrological conditions of the origin, evaluates the suitability of the site, and guides the planning and construction of production bases to maintain and improve the quality of the ecological environment and ensure the health and high-quality and high-yield of agricultural products.
